Greuel's First Campaign Ad Targets Tea Party in Waxman District

Democrat Wendy Greuel, running to succeed 20-term Democrat Rep. Henry Waxman (D), has released her first campaign ad of the 2014 primary as early voting starts ahead of the June 3 primary. The ad, according to the Greuel campaign, "highlights our progressive values and the threat they face from right-wing special interests."

In it, Greuel vows to "stand up to the Tea Party and the special interests to protect Social Security and Medicare for our parents and our grandparents." (Conservatives maintain that unless Social Security and Medicare are reformed, the programs will not survive for America's children and grandchildren in the coming decades.)

Greuel also vows to take action on climate change and to "fight for pay equity and a woman's right to choose." Her message is aimed at the many liberal voters in the 33rd congressional district. The district's Republican and independent voters will be also voting in the same primary under California's new "jungle" or "top two" system.
